MORE 4 IDENTS

Channel 4 as a whole seem to be on board with their identity, especially creating visually appealing and clever forms such as these. What I find particularly interesting about this set of idents, is the motion in which the logo unfolds. Turning a page, with colourful overlapping layers.

Top TEN: Soundtrack IDEAS

This morning Lorraine made it clear, that in order to create the right feel and motion throughout the motion, we need to make sure the soundtrack is appropriate and also the title sequence needs to sync with the beat.

At the moment, I'm looking at various pieces of music, that I feel would be suitable. As the whole idea of my motion is to create a sense of happiness and mystery, I'm trying to find quirky upbeat tracks that could possibly fit.

- Tiny Tim - Tip Toe Through The Tulips (Major alliteration there)

This song stuck in my mind after watching insidious at the cinema, there's something about the tone of voice used and the initial melody that I find extremely peculiar and morbid to say the least. Saying that, It's a possible piece of music that I feel I could work with. As the initial feel of my animation is to be direct in functioning with movement.

- Luke Abbott - Melody 120

This is another potential track for the motion. The video itself is quite interesting, as each visual reflects the notion of sound. Effectively building up an imaginary world alongside the beat. After listening to it, you can clearly get a sense of positivity and joy.

- Ether - Beghe

Although the track below isn't the original mix I would want to use, the majority of the melody is exactly the same. The sounds created create a welcoming feel to the start, something I want to incorporate into my motion.

- Kryptic Minds - Time Flies

This track has a slow paced tempo, and sounds that create a relaxing atmosphere. Although it could be hard to match key frames with the beat, it would allow a different feel from the motion. Effectively I could create a simple movement between sections of the motion.

- Arkist - Fill My Coffee

The intro melody, has a warm and cheerful sound, creating a soothing track throughout. There are then various points in which the beat continuously revolves, only looping particular sounds. This could be an effective choice to use, as I would be able to create interesting movements with the motion and track together.

ELIO

Humorous and executed perfectly to fit the context intended. You can clearly see the models are made from paper, there is no attempt to alternate away from this fact. There are subtle hints of moving type and animation incorporated throughout which has inspired me to seeing how my own video could be developed into.

ROB DIAZ

THE SEED

This is interesting, a project funded by Adobe's CS4 suite. Incorporating a mixture of papercraft and two dimensional animation, allows a constant relation between hand made pieces of work and digital. As the camera moves across sequential frames, you can easily see the journey unfold.

PRINICIPLES OF GEOMETRY

Yet again another stunning visual created on a particle based logic. What I find even more impressive is the slip into geometrical lines from motional dots. This play as significant impact on the whole animation itself, as it becomes an illusion of space. Impressive work to say the least.

GRAVITY - DIRECTORS CUT

What i find really interesting about this video, is the composition from the camera. There some acute angles that allow a form of focus to emerge. This is then followed by Graphic Motion within the video itself, the use of movement created by shapes an type, overlays an extra impressive and more immediate reaction from the audience.

TAKE YOUR MEDICINE - TRANSFER

Probably one of the most complex music videos I have seen. The fluid movement of Illustrative pieces of artwork, including the 3D characters is impressive. Visually flowing across the screen, creating an atmosphere that allows the audience to visualise a whole new concept to the music itself.

RADIUM REALFX

DUST BREEDING

Impressive movement of particles right from the start. Allowing the audience to be emerged in to this virtual reality of space, time and physicality's of the natural world. By allowing the context of the idea move freely across space, enables a different approach to viewing the piece of motion. You really have to sit back and ask yourself, is this even possible ?

DUST BREEDING

FUMGRO

JAN GOLDFUSS

MAGNUS

What makes this so successful, is the environment created within a four dimensional space. Allowing a story to free flow throughout, as the visually realistic train travels across the land. There is something cruelly unnatural and disturbing about being able to to completely see a lanscape and visual atmosphere that replicates a detail interpretation of the real world.

MERADI OMAR

INFINITY WATER

Beautifully crafted piece of motion. Taking water out of it's physical context and allowing it to be able to create a new sense of direction in a four dimensional space, allows the impossible become possible. What I find really interesting in this animation, is the movement of the flowing water. Conventionally water should not be abe to react like that in it's natural environment, but putting it in a new space enables this to become visual.

KORB

20 HZ

Definitely have not seen anything like this before. There is something inspiring, being able to visually see the once unforeseen power of animation and graphic motion. This altogether is something else, a new breed. The motion itself creates a compelling sense of urgency right from the start, keeping the audience locked into the seemingly morbid visuals. Particles in another context.

SEMICONDUCTOR

MISANTHROPE

A short story about the effects that can be caused after a tragic accident, especially what can happen in that situation. What I find more interesting than the overall concept itself, is the response to using animation and motion graphics to visually communicate. Although it is basic, in terms of design and movement. There is also a strong structure to the context that allows you to understand the narrative.

BORBAS ROBERT

Absolutely smashes digital Illustration. The technique this guy has managed to develop is excellent. Although the video is in another language, possibly Swedish there is a complete subtly and vague understanding to the English audience. To me, everything is written in the English language, the majority anyway. It has made me realised that the audience is more important than you realise.

TROUBLEMAKERS

Really impressive use of 3D skills and software throughout each of these motions, the key turning points transitioning a frame from one another are excellently crafted. The visual elements clearly show a sense of a four dimensional space, seeing this as not a restriction, but as opportunity to build & create something quite unique.

THE VINYL FRONTIER

_

Interesting title sequence / introduction into a film created to understand the culture and roots to designer toys. The quick piece of video, explains briefly how an artist can use a 3D object to allow a much broader interaction with the product. By taking to contexts and bringing them together in a new format, the outcome becomes more effective in reaching it's audience.

KIDROBOT - MUNNY

As you can see, these pieces of graphic motion and animation are primarily coloured, to add more value to the feel and mood of the clip. In order to achieve that, it needs to speak to the audience correctly. In this case it clearly speaks to the younger generation and gives a much more playful process. Allowing you to simultaneously understand the visual language being provoked.

THE GIFT

There is something disturbing and uncomfortable about the animation & mood created within this piece of video / animation. To me, a massive sense of fear provokes right from the start of the sequence. As the reel gradually moves across time, urgency becomes more apparent. The animation alone is incredible & extremely well crafted, making the whole motion more exciting to watch.

E4 IDENTS

Obviously there are examples of graphic motion that are available on everyday T.V. conventionally, you would see these at the start of a programme, as a short introduction and/or advertisement. The particularly interesting piece of motion and frame sequences are the pieces of movement used, that allow the letters to free formally move across the screen.
